In other, far more exciting news, Moped Man got a front tire!

The weekend (in no particular order)...

Sara trying to eat the sun.

Today was a great day. Sara and I woke and went for a quick 18 mile run along the lake. Well, not really quick... It was an exhausting run. Once again, the wind was brutal. Afterwards, we tried to go to M. Henry for breakfast, but it was jam packed at 2 p.m. on a Sunday afternoon. It's good, but not that good. We ended up at Bakin' & Eggs on Lincoln Ave. The waiter convinced me into trying the flight of bacon. Well, not much convincing was really necessary. After breakfast we went for a nice walk and then stopped off at Huettenbar for a few beers. There were a couple of drunks in there, but the bartender did a great job at managing the situation. After beers we went home and made veggie lasagna. So good!

Last night, I had the opportunity to photograph the International Academy of Design - Chicago Fashion Show at Union Station. I've never shot a fashion show, and I'm not really that into things fashionable. Still, it was a great show, and you could tell that the students really worked hard to pull off a show this huge.

I shot the show with a 5D and a 5D Mark II. The 5D was mounted with my 85 f1.2, while the 5D Mark II was mounted with my 70 - 200 f2.8. Both cameras were at ISO 1600. In hindsight, I could have bumped the 5D Mark II ISO to 3200, but oh well. The 85 f1.2 performed insanely well on the 5D (most shots were between f1.4 and f2.0. Also, I didn't use flash. Almost all the other photographers were using flash, but I just wanted to shoot available light. All in all, it was a great learning experience, but I'm pretty sure that I don't want to be a fashion photographer.

Hopefully this isn't moped man overload. This morning, before getting to work, moped man did a bit more off roading and found himself in some rather precarious situations. I'm always amazed at his death defying maneuvers, especially since he is forced to drive on only one wheel.

Yesterday, Sara and I, along with our friends Laura and Ann, went to a roller derby. Good times! Sara and I went early as we didn't have tickets. After getting some tickets, Sara and I walked to Stanley's on Racine. Big mistake. After getting seated and situated with a beer, we waited nearly 40 minutes for a waiter. 25 minutes into the wait I asked one person if he could be our waiter and was told no but that he would find us one. 10 minutes later we asked another waiter if he could be our waiter and he too told us no. Five minutes after that a waitress shows up and asks if we know who ur waiter is. We tell her that we've been waiting for 40 minutes and we just want to pay for our beers. Eventually, a bartender comes over to apologize and we tell her that we've been waiting 40 minutes. They ended up comping our two beers.

Roller derby is pretty cool. Not sure we'll be racing back anytime soon, but it's worth checking out. I was hoping that it would be crazier and more like it was back in the late 1970s and early 80s.

I shot this photo of Sara using my 50 mm f1.2 at 1.2. It's a tricky lens to nail the focus with, especially when you have such a narrow depth of field. This lens shines and Sara is beautiful.
More photos here.
Afterwards, we went to Crust on Division. I'd been there once before, maybe two years ago. The food was okay, but as usual, the company was great. Sara and I tried to go to Tasty Freeze on Armitage and California, but it was closed by 10:30. We couldn't believe that we were out so late.

Tonight, after a nice four mile run with Sara, I made asparagus risotto and Sara made a colorful salad. The risotto recipe made enough to feed a family of 10. Delicious! We paired it with a nice sauvignon blanc from New Zealand. For dessert we went to Wendy's for frostys.

The beer, a Julius Echter, was from the other night at Huettenbar.

Some final photos from NYC...

This was some sort of modern art that looked more like the scribblings of children on a blackboard. There was a rather esoteric explanation on the placard next to the piece, but neither Sara or I was buying it.
