08.23.05:
Is today 08.23.05? I really should check the calendar before I start typing. I tried working on another album cover concept for the upcoming Zerostars EP. Everything I come up with is crap. Instead this is what I did...

Can you name the song that line comes from? Or at least the band?
On Sunday I ran 18 miles and hit the 600 mile mark, actually hit 616 during the run, for the year. This morning I really struggled with my run, which means I really need to just go to bed. It's a low mileage week, only 36.
08.19.05:

From cnn.com:
With the advent of Wal-Mart and Target as major record stores, there are fewer outlets where you might find several different albums from one artist.
Calling Target and Walmart "record stores" is just as odd as seeing a pair of tennis shoes on the road during rush hour traffic.

Album:
21 Days - The Universal Garden

I've decided that I don't like exclamation marks (!). I received an email earlier from a person who didn't take the time to address me. Instead they sent me an email with only a subject header that ended in an exclamation mark. It was as if the person was yelling at me. Quite rude. Therefore, I think it's necessary to ban exclamation marks.

Earlier in the day I was walking, and I decided that walking is too slow. Not that I'm in a hurry to get anywhere, but... It's like whenever I'm walking I want to break into a sprint and just take off.
Song:
White Film - Noriko Tujiko
Album:
The Lovely - Mara Carlyle
08.16.05:
Here's a look at the little video that I'm putting together called 'Work Equals Freedom.' The music is by Deerhoof, and it stars the Grim Reaper. Ideally I'd like to build sets using shoeboxes and other things, but I have other things to work on.
Today I was exhausted. Hopefully I can get to bed early enough to get enough sleep for my eight mile run tomorrow morning.
Song(s):
The Comeback (Big Slippa Mix By Ratatat) - Shout Out Louds (I love this band.)
Saeglópur - Sigur Ros (Single from their upcoming album)
Album:
Tales From Turnpike House - Saint Etienne (Contender for album of the year.)
08.15.05:
Song(s):
Don't You (Forget About Me) - Simple Minds (Either I'm feeling incredibly nostalgic for the 80's or something else is on my mind. I'll go with the second reason. Before leaving for work I was doing something this morning when I started to think about this song. Partially I think it was due to an email that I received last week and my response to that email and some other thing(s) that seem to be bubbling under the surface of my thoughts and within the conversations I keep having with myself. I know, that makes me sound crazy, but I assure you that I'm sane.)
slow Killer - Donna Regina ("Time is a very slow killer... Time is an effective killer.")
America's Boy - Broadcast (First single off their upcoming album.)
mio Pianto - Takagi Masakatsu
xi-huan8 - Kan Daisuke
Album:
Heart Food - Judee Sill (70's country rock, great production.)
08.14.05:
Spent yesterday in the studio with Garret, Jason and Kelly recording cello and flute parts for Smoking In Bed. Kelly did a fantastic job on her parts. I didn't do much but take a lot photos.

After recording Kelly and I stopped at Sees Candies in Downers Grove, then stopped in Oak Park for some dinner and ice cream.
This morning I woke and ran 17 miles. When I finished I felt great. Now, my legs are a bit tight. Next week the training mileage peaks at 44 miles.
Listening to:
Maritime - Minotaur Shock
08.12.05:
Last night's stormy weather caused me to wake at around 2 AM. Since I was up I decided to check the mouse traps over by the radiator. Once again, the poison had been moved about four or five inches the radiator pipe, and all the traps were empty. This mouse is taunting me. Upon cloer inspection of the area around the radiator I noticed a few small areas that a mouse can fit through. I then went back to sleep.
My dreams (or were they nightmares?) were of mice playing pranks on me. In one dream my phone kept ringing, and when I picked the phone up I could hear little mouse squeaks. Am I going crazy?
When I woke up to get ready for work I inspected the traps again. Still empty. So I took some steel wool and stuffed it around the radiator pipe and forced some into a few of the small holes in between the molding and hardwood floor. Tonight I'll purchase some proper material so that I can fill in the cracks and holes better.
Still, what gets me is that the mouse is eating the poison, but not dying. Does some sort of super mouse inhabit the walls of my apartment?
Listening to:
A Certain Trigger - Maximo Park
08.11.05:
Okay, so maybe this mouse thing is starting to go too far. This morning, before going out for a run, I noticed that the cube of mouse poison located by my dining room radiator had been moved about six or so inches away from where I had originally placed it. There's a large enough hole between the radiator pipe and the hard wood floor for a mouse to climb up through, so I devised the following set-up:

If this does not catch me another mouse, then I don't know what will.
08.10.05:
Yesterday, the mouse hole in my kitchen wall was filled with some sort of foam product. I was assured that the two mice that I caught were the first mice ever to be seen and caught in the building. I don't believe that, but maybe it was a fluke. Although, and this is mot mouse related, I am now without power in 1/4 of my apartment. Thankfully it's not the part where I have my air conditioner.
I woke at 5 AM to run eight, but it looked like it might storm, so I crawled back into bed for another hour or so, which means I have to run after work. I'm not a fan of running after work, especially in the summer, and I'll probably have less than 24 hours between workouts since I'll try and wake on Thursday to run four.
Listening to:
Sicalyptico & Calypso - Rita Calypso (Excellent 60's influenced pop. Actually all the songs on these two CDs are covers.)
The Third Face - Malory (Heavily influenced by Slowdive, but still quite good. I'm thinking this has potential to make it onto the iPod for future runs.)
Song:
Do You Realize - Orenda Fink (Cover of The Flaming Lips' classic done by one half of Azure Ray.)
08.07.05:
I spent my day...
1. Waking early and running 11 miles
2. Making scrambled eggs
3. Going grocery shopping
4. Catching a mouse (see below photos for proof. This is mouse #2 that I've caught, and I'm quite unhappy that I've caught another mouse just after signing my lease. More on the mouse tomorrow.)
5. Recording a bass part for Smoking In Bed
6. Eating lots of fig newtons
7. Seeing Bill Frisell at the Old Town School of Folk (Quite disappointing)
8. Ending the evening with a beer and some nice conversation
9. Wishing that it was Fall/Winter

d-Con doesn't work. If it did I wouldn't have to resort to using traps. These sticky traps work best, but they seem a bit cruel. The mouse steps on it, and can't get off. They die a slow death. I prefer the old style mouse traps, but they just don't seem as effective.
Song:
Right Heavy Metal - Goat Horn ("If not for heavy metal / Would I know what to do?" Great stuff, seriously, great stuff. Thanks Jason)
08.05.05:
Last Sunday I went and watched Kelly play trumpet in the summer orchestra that she plays in. I forgot my camera, so I used Kelly's camera. She sent me some of the photos that I took:

08.04.05:
Adding more... It's night. I was thinking earlier. Thinking can be bad. It leads to missing things, people, places, and the past. I'd like the phone to ring, and to hear... But it won't. So Catherine Wheel will have to do.
Listening to:
Chrome - Catherine Wheel
Song(s):
Pain - Catherine Wheel
Stay - Asobi Seksu
I've been on a movie kick. Last night I watched The Last Waltz. Amazing, simply amazing. If I wasn't already a musician, The Last Waltz would make me want to be a musician.
Tuesday night I watched City of God. Another one of those movies that has managed to escape my viewing until now. Brilliant movie, and an incredible story.
I'm growing tired of this ever present heat and humidity. One would think that waking up early that the heat and humidity wouldn't be so oppressive, but both have been terrible. This morning it was murderous outside. Maybe with less humidity things would be bearable. I kept saying to myself, "That which does not kill me only makes me stronger." I will say that as I started my run I was clapping along with Mylo, which is a great one man electro band to run to.
