Tri-X at 800 in Diafine. I love developing in Diafine. Diafine is super easy to use; three minutes in solution A, three minutes in solution B, stop bath, fix and rinse. Although, you pretty much are forced to shoot between 800 and 1600. I've been pretty happy with Tri-X at around 1250 or so. I need to spend some time with HC-110, but that involves a bit more patience with the temperature.

From a roll of Tri-X...

There is a definite difference between Tri-X and HP5+. They each have very distinct qualities and I think I like them both. Larger versions here.

I developed a couple rolls of film tonight, one roll of Tri-X that was shot at between 1250 and 1600 and one roll of HP5+ at 800. Here are a few scans of the HP5+...

A night of cookies, beer and pizza... Perfect way to end a great day (a nice 10 mile run in the late morning with Sara) to another great weekend.

On a technical note... I need to use flash more often. I rarely use it, but it's such an important tool to light a room.

Pardon me while I totally nerd out... The below shot was taken a few weeks back at Sabatino's on Irving Park in Chicago. Sabatino's is old school Italian, and I wouldn't be surprised if a few discussions between mobsters have gone down in the back room. I took this in the bar, which is super dark. Shot with my Bessa R2a and my Nokton f1.1 on Tri-X at somewhere between 1250 and 1600 (can't recall, but more than likely at 1600). I developed it in Diafine. I'm just amazed at the sharpness of the eyes (I did very little post in Photoshop, just tweaked the levels and added a touch of unsharp mask), especially since I shot this at f1.1! It can be tough to hit your focus with such a shallow depth of field, especially when you're focusing manual and in poor lighting conditions, at f1.1 but when you do, the results with the Nokton are pretty damn spectacular, and dare I say, better than my Canon f1.2?

Been busy. On Friday night Zerostars played a show at the Bottom Lounge. As usual, I have no photos of us actually performing...

On Saturday, Sara celebrated a birthday, so we spent the day and night downtown. Really fun evening!
