And now for something completely different...

On Saturday Sara took me to prom. I never went to my high school prom, so I think it was quite apropos to attend a prom with students from the southside of Chicago. It was a fun night.
Yesterday, after a few beers at Huttenbar, Sara had me pose for this fantastic gem of a photo. To my defense, it was was pretty warm yesterday...

I love my 50mm f1.2 but sometimes I'm annoyed with the back focus. No back focus here, but it did back focus on a couple of the other shots that Sara took. This lens is insanely sharp.

These photos are too great to not post (from Saturday). I have a wonderful family.

After a fun afternoon of watching soccer and going to the Apple store (I almost bought an iPad), Sara (who bought a MacBook Pro that I'm jealous of) and I had dinner with our friends. We went to a great mexican restaurant called New Rebozo in Oak Park. I had possibly the best fish tacos ever and while the waitress got us with the upsell on the margaritas. They were worth it since they appeared endless. After dinner we went to Petersen Ice Cream for dessert.

I’ve never seen Scarface, and quite frankly, I never intend to. I just find it fascinating that some storefronts on Lawrence always have the Al Pacino throw blanket hanging in front of their stores. I know I’m not the target demographic to purchase one of these exquisitely made cotton blankets, but why would someone think it’s appropriate to buy one of these things? Isn’t Pacino's character a drug dealer? Doesn’t he end up dead by the end of the movie? Yeah, let’s glorify a piece of trash by putting his image on a blanket.

Yesterday, I had an opportunity to take photos of Brian Malarkey, a season three finalist on Bravo's Top Chef. Brian was an insanely nice guy and totally authentic. He has a new restaurant opening in mid-July in San Diego called Searsucker.

I don't usually take portraits in the traditional sense with strobes, softboxes and umbrellas. I had a request to take his portrait, so I had to deliver. Not perfect, but I'm learning.

Lawrence Ave. in Chicago always cracks me up.

Sara and I didn't want to run after work, so we went for some beers at Huettenbar.
Afterwards we made chicken curry salad and pita chips.

After the killing of thousands of ants (possibly a million) yesterday afternoon, we were able to salvage the evening. No, we didn't eat at Diner Grill. We ate a new place on Irving Park called The Piggery. The pork tenderloin sandwich was really good, while the pulled pork bbq was pretty tasty. Can't say I loved the ambiance. Afterwards we walked to Scooter's Frozen Custard.

Last night, Sara and I went to a benefit for Ronald McDonald House Charities Chicago/Northwest Indiana. Before handing my camera over, I had to make sure everything was set. I love my Canon 50 mm f1.2! This was taken at f2.0. Sara, as she always does, looked beautiful last night. It's really nice to have a photo of the two of us together.
