“We do a lot of looking: we look through lenses, telescopes, television tubes… Our looking is perfected everyday – but we see less and less.”

-- Frederick Franck

Today we went for a ride on a tugboat...

Spent the day up in Southwest Harbor, Acadia National Park. Bass Headlight is probably one of my most favorite places on the planet, especially during the winter. Today was cold, and very few people were at the headlight. I think I'm going to reprocess the below photos for when I print them.

Listening to:
The Joshua Tree - U2 (I'm listening to the remastered version on my Powerbook, so I really can't tell if it's any better than the original release. However, there are a couple of b-sides that I don't have, so that's a bonus. I will say that I feel like it's 1987 all over again and I'm dreaming of forming a band and playing bass. I used to think U2 were the greatest band ever. And then they started sucking around the time Pop came out and I pretty much stopped following them. Still, I think everything up to Achtung Baby is pretty amazing, and I love running to The Unforgettable Fire.)

Song:
Queen Elvis - Robyn Hitchcock ("People get what they deserve / Time is round and space is curved / Honey have you got the nerve / To be Queen Elvis?" The local Camden record store, Wild Rufus, did a special order on Wednesday that consisted of the new Robyn Hitchcock box set and The Joshua Tree. Both arrived by Friday. Why is it that a town as small as Camden, Maine can have a record store, while the northwest suburbs of Illinois don't have any record stores? Seriously, I hate having to order stuff online.)

Happy Thanksgiving.

What a foggy day in Camden, Maine. I went out to take some photos, but the fog makes everything flat and colorless.

And this was just weird...

Listening to:
Streetcore - Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros

Self portrait of me as an astro man. Now only if I could get Daft Punk to play at my apartment, or if I could take a trip to the moon.

Isn't art supposed to reveal something about the soul? Photography class tonight really bugged me.

There's a message in there, but you have to find it on your own.

I keep thinking that it's later in the week than it really is. Of course tomorrow is Thursday.

Song:
Englabörn / Angelic Children - Ragnhildur Gísladóttir & Stomu Yamash´ta (Musically joy is one of the hardest of emotions to capture. This song captures joy in a very magical and pure way. And it's sung in Icelandic by what sounds like a choir of children. Would make sense in Icelandic version of A Charlie Brown Christmas.)

KK twisted my arm to go out to dinner with her at the West Town Tavern on Chicago. So I caught the 5:32 pm train down to the Clybourn stop. It was a delicious feast that consisted of an amazing roasted beet salad, beef tenderloin with french cut green beans and scallop potatoes, and pineapple upsidedown cake.

This is Gino, or at least I think that's his name. As I was waiting for the train he kept asking what I was taking pictures of. Eventually his mom said, "If you want you can take his photo." So I snapped a quick photo.

Friday night pizza party in photos (at times it's difficult shooting with the 50mm 1.4 lens as the depth of field is so shallow. It's the perfect lens for low light situations, but it takes a lot to tame the shots, especially when at f1.4.):

The above photo cracks me up as it appears that kk is on some sort of terrible drug binge. This was taken at the El stop on our way to Chicago Pizza and Oven Grinder, home of the pot pie pizza.

Nearly 10 hours in the same location without any natural sunlight is enough to make anybody go mad. Throughtout the morning and afternoon and into the early evening I kept writing in a red notebook the words exist and exit. Then I would break exist down into other words like sex, sit, and six (with exit being one of those words as well). I thought about Proust (but I can't seem to recall why) and how when I run in the morning I say "Good morning Mr. Squirrel," if I run past a squirrel, or "Good morning Mrs. Rabbit," if I run past a rabbit. I think I also told a coworker that things would be easier if we were ants. In hindsight that was probably too strange of a thing to say to someone that I work with.

Now I'm just tired. However, I managed to get together enough energy to seal up the windows in my bedroom. Exciting.

I'm not sure where October went. I'm not even sure where the first few days of November have already disappeared to. Pretty soon a new year will be here and I'll wonder where 2007 went.

Song:
If Time Was On My Side - Pluramon (There's this recent moment, I suppose a memory, that seems to be stuck on constant loop. This is the soundtrack to that loop.)
