"When you see such photos, you can't help but wonder at just how sweet and sad and innocent all moments of life are rendered by the tripping of a camera's shutter, for at that point the future is still unknown and has yet to hurt us, and also for that brief moment, our poses are accepted as honest."

At this moment...

Sounds to accompany the below photos.

Shot with a Bessa R4A and a 21/4 color skopar. Can't say I love C41 b&w film...

Yesterday, after running 20 miles, Sara and I went to see the White Sox play the Royals. Once again, like when we went to Wrigley Field, we had some pretty sweet seats, eight rows back from the first base line. However, we did feel like we were traitors. And like last time we went to a ball game we saw our hometown win, as well as saw a few homeruns and a grand slam.

Happy birdthday Dad!

My first few rolls of film came back. The color turned out horrible. I partially blame the lab but I partially blame myself as the film might have been old. Oh well... They also screwed up the b&w by underdeveloping them one to two stops. Not sure why they did something so foolish. I was able to salvage some in Photoshop. Time to learn how to develop my own film.

Here are a handful of shots. Taken with my recently acquired Voigtlander Bessa R2A rangefinder, a Nokton 50/1.1, and a few rolls of Kodak tri-x. I have to say, I love the look of b&w film, just something very special about it. And the Nokton 50/1.1 is a pretty stellar lens. I almost think it is sharper at 1.1 than my Canon 50/1.2 at 1.2.

A big thanks to Sara for letting me take photos of her.

I'm slow to update as I've been shooting film lately and well, I can be kind of lazy when it comes to getting the film developed. I need to find a good lab as I have a bunch of tri-x that I would like to have pushed a stop or two.

In the meantime, enjoy the squirrel...

Yesterday, after spending some time in the afternoon packing and moving out of my apartment, I went back into the city to spend the remainder of my Sunday with Sara. Upon arriving at her apartment I was greeted by this little fellow. Initially he was sitting atop the cement stairs leading to Sara's apartment building. For about 30 seconds he just kind of sat there looking at me. For a brief moment I think he thought I might be a friend, but then he did something I've never seen a squirrel do. He jumped onto the building and started to climb his way to the top. Not wanting to miss a great moment in squirrel photography I rang Sara's buzzer. When she came up the stairs I motioned her to come outside. She gave me a somewhat quizzical look and I said something about a squirrel climbing her apartment building. After giving me, "Are you serious look" she came outside and I again pointed to the squirrel. Now, in my excitement to show Sara the squirrel I forgot to tell her hello.

We watched as he climbed to the top of the building but when he got to the top he wasn't sure what to do as there was a lip that he knew he couldn't latch onto. I looked at Sara and said, "Can you stay here while I run inside and grab my real camera?" Again, she gave another look and asked, "You don't think the squirrel will be here when you come back?" I didn't. I knew that given an opportunity he would make a quick move to get his tiny feet back on solid ground.

Graciously Sara stood guard as I went inside and grabbed my camera. When I returned he was still attached to the brick wall but now he was on his way down. When he saw me he stopped and contemplated jumping from one building to the other but he thought that wouldn't be wise. Eventually he made his move and made it to the ground.
